Add or Edit a Key

Each keyboard consists of a collection of keys. A key is an active element that has multiple writing elements. The add or edit key window is identical.

- Hotkey: A hotkey is a key or combination of keys that performs a writing action. This field shows the associated hotkey. To assign a key, simply focus on the field and press the desired key or key combination.

- Deadkey: A dead key is a key that does not immediately produce a character when pressed but modifies the character produced by the next hotkey. This mechanism is often used to type accented or special characters that are not directly present on the keyboard. The field shows the dead key used. To assign a key, simply focus on the field and press the desired key or key combination.

- Writing elements: The list of writing elements shows the programmable actions that are examined when the key, key combination, or dead key and hotkey sequence is pressed. A writing element utilizes a powerful system of conditional expressions to analyze the writing context, execute an action, and write the desired character or text. Therefore, a key can have different writing outcomes depending on the context in which it is used. The list is associated with a contextual menu containing basic commands. The list has three columns: Writing, Condition, and Action. During typing, the position of the element determines its interrogation priority. If the element's condition is satisfied by the programmed context, the indicated action is executed, followed by the writing of the inserted character or text.

- Add: Button to add a writing element.

- Delete: Button to delete the selected writing element.

- Properties: Button to edit the selected writing element.

- Move Up and Move Down: Arrow buttons to change the position of the selected element.

- Ok: Button to confirm the addition or modification of the key.

- Cancel: Button to cancel the addition or modification and return to the previous window. When using this window to view the key fields, it is always useful to use Cancel to exit the window and avoid unintentional changes.
