The document's Braille and screen readers
To ensure that the braille content displayed on the device is exactly the same as what is printed on paper, Biblos provides centralized transcription management, fully integrated with the major screen readers, JAWS and NVDA.
For JAWS users:
- From the Help menu, select “Install scripts…” to install the necessary scripts for integration with JAWS.
- After installation, press JAWSKey+V to open the screen reader's specific settings.
- Enable the option Biblos Braille Mode, then save your selection.
For JAWS versions earlier than 2022, you must manually select the “BiblosUnicode” table within JAWS' braille configurations. This table was specifically created to ensure compatibility.
For NVDA users:
- From the Help menu, select “Install scripts…” to start installing the dedicated NVDA addon.
- Once the installation is complete, NVDA will be able to interact with Biblos.
For both screen readers, braille translation of the document must be enabled:
- Open the Tools menu, then select Braille and then Settings…
- In the window that opens, go to the Advanced tab.
- In the “Document Braille” field, choose the desired table or group. You may also select a custom translation table.
This configuration allows Biblos to directly manage the braille text output, preventing the screen reader from reinterpreting or reformatting the content based on its own logic.
