The General tab

This tab contains the General settings for the printing device. These settings are always stored in the chosen configuration profile, i.e. maintained as settings for any uploaded document.

- Settings Profile: This box contains the profiles that are available for storing settings. There are 26 profiles available, which can also be reached by pressing a letter on the keyboard. When changing profile, all settings take on the values of the selected profile. Profile changes can also be made when printing in Braille or tactile;

- Reset - this button resets the Braille settings to the source values of the selected profile or program source. An additional context menu appears in which you choose the type of restoration. "Reset Settings" returns all values to the original values. If the Default box is enabled, the source values are all the settings stored in the selected profile. If the Default box is disabled, the source values are all settings associated with the loaded document. "Reset settings" returns all values to the original values of the program;

- Profile name: Edit field in which you can enter a description of the selected profile. The description appears next to the profile letter;

- Braille printer - indicates the printing device used to print in Braille. This box displays all printer drivers installed on your system. If your Braille printer driver does not appear, there is some installation problem. For more detailed information on how to install your printer, refer to your Braille printer manual;

- Pages per sheet: The box where you choose how many pages per sheet you can print on your Braille printer. Please note that a page is always one side of a sheet. If your printer allows two-sided printing, there are 2 pages per sheet to set;

- Braille model: from this box you can choose the model of your Braille printer. If there is no model for your printer, you can choose a generic model (Generic) that has the Braille encoding set in your printer. If you don't know your printer's Braille encoding, you can find it empirically by doing proofs. If you choose a specific model, the features of your printer are used in depth;

- Braille type: This box depends on the Braille model you choose. In the case of generic models it is not available. For all specific models, the "Default" option allows you to use the configurations already set up in the printer, while the other choices allow you to use the advanced print settings;

- Graphics Type: When available, you can choose the graphics mode to print your tactile graphics from this box;

- Advanced settings: This button allows you to enter the Braille printer specific settings window. Advanced settings depend on the model you choose. Advanced print settings are only used if you set a Braille Type other than Default;

- Characters per line: To make correct braille prints, you must specify the characters per line set on your braille printer. This value can also be obtained empirically by using the button to perform a proof test;

- Lines per page: To make correct braille prints, you must specify the lines per page set on your braille printer. This value can also be obtained empirically by using the button to perform a proof test;

- End of Page Type-sets how the end of the page is to be used. You can choose not to use the end of the page, to use it for each page or only at the end of the document;

- Braille test: This button allows you to check your settings by performing a Braille proof. The proof also allows you to empirically identify characters per line and lines per page. In the Braille sheet, on the top and left sides, the letters of the alphabet will be printed, allowing you to check the printer margins, characters per line and lines per page;

- Graph Width: This box allows you to choose the tactile point width of the graph area. The box is associated with a contextual menu containing commands to automatically obtain the correct width;

- Graphic Height: This box allows you to choose the tactile height of the graphic area. The box is associated with a contextual menu containing commands to automatically obtain the correct height;

- End of page quantity: how many end of page to follow when a tactile graph is printed. This value is useful if you are printing touch graphics using general templates, or for printers where you need to use the end of page for sheet changes;

- Graphic test: This button allows you to try out the tactile printing of a graph. A rectangle delimiting the touch-sheet area is printed. If a perfect rectangle is not printed, or if the rectangle is smaller on one or more sides of the sheet, the width and height of the graph must be adjusted.
