Wildcard Characters for Search
The "^" activator also precedes special characters defined as wildcards. A wildcard character is used to replace a group of characters, such as a group of letters, numbers, punctuation marks, etc., or a special element of the text.
The wildcard characters that can be used are as follows:
- "*" (asterisk): any character except space.
- "?" (question mark): any letter of the alphabet.
- "%" (percent sign): any consonant.
- "&" (ampersand): any vowel.
- "@" (at sign): any accented vowel.
- "<" (less than): any lowercase letter.
- ">" (greater than): any uppercase letter.
- "#" (hashtag): any number.
- "_" (underscore): any punctuation mark.
- "!" (exclamation mark): any other character except letters, numbers, or punctuation marks.
- "p": end of paragraph.
- "l": end of line.
- "t": tab character.
For example, if you enter the string "terr^&," the words "terra," "terre," etc., will be found in the document.
To use wildcard characters, it is necessary to activate the corresponding search criterion from the appropriate options list.
